Tubing Float Gear

All you need for a Missouri tubing float — heavy-duty tube, cooler tube, neck-strap drinkware, and tether so nothing floats off downstream.

Pack list

What to bring

Heavy-duty tubes, cooler floats, and gear that won't sink.

Personal flotation device (PFD)

Required by law even on a tube. Wear it — do not drape it over the tube.

Amazon

Water shoes — not flip flops

You will drag over shallow riffles and need to walk on rocky riverbed. Flip flops float away. Closed-toe water shoes stay on.

Amazon

Cooler tube (floats separately)

Never hold a heavy cooler on your lap in a tube — you will tip. A dedicated cooler tube floats alongside you and keeps drinks cold without the risk.

Amazon

Premium rental tube upgrade

Most Missouri outfitters offer upgraded "Cadillac" tubes with backrests and mesh bottoms — far more comfortable than a standard pool tube on a 4–6 hour float. Ask at the outfitter counter.

Amazon

Floating polarized sunglasses

Zero shade on a tube float — sun reflects off the water all day. Polarized lenses, floating style so they stay findable if they go overboard.

Amazon

Waterproof phone pouch with lanyard

You will want your phone out for photos. A pouch on a lanyard keeps it dry and attached. If it goes in the water on a tube float, you will not see it on the bottom.

Amazon

Mineral sunscreen SPF 50 (river-safe)

On a tube you are completely exposed with no shade. Apply before launch, reapply every 2 hours. Mineral zinc oxide formulas are safer for Ozark waterways.

Amazon

Wide brim hat

Necessary sun protection on an all-day tube float. Get one you are comfortable getting wet.

Amazon

Dry bag (10L — small)

Just big enough for keys, wallet, and a change of clothes. Anything larger is awkward to manage while tubing.
